The Super Fry – 1998 Chevy Diesel

We were warned, after the airing of our episode on Guy Fieri’s, “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives” in 2009 that demand for our trucks would increase exponentially. Wasn’t that the truth!

Our idea was to build a truck bigger than the others. We needed a truck that could handle large crowds. So we started our search for a truck in which we could replicate the cooking line from our store. It was just a stroke of luck that right under our noses we found the perfect truck sitting at our bakery, Chaves Bakery, in Bridgeport. It was a 24-foot-long 1998 Chevy diesel that just happened to have been retired from service. This truck was going to be a project! The aluminum body was perfect, but the drivetrain had 400,000 plus miles. From the ground up we designed, built and completed our 3rd Super Duper Truck sometime in 2010. Along with a brand new diesel engine and transmission, we installed a 16-foot-long cooking line. This was double the size of the cooking area in either of the other trucks. With the addition of a six foot griddle and two high output fryers, we could now handle the big jobs. Hence the name, Super Fry.

We initially called her “Big Red”. All 24 feet of her.

Starting to  come together and almost ready for paint.

The 16 foot hood was so large we had to install it in 2 pieces.

Lots of room to work in this truck.

Fresh paint and the classic “Super Duper” graphics.
